ABOUT
We grew up with parents who also owned a small in-home daycare so we are familiar with the setting. We have always loved sharing our home with others. After our High School graduations, we both individually made the choice to move to Bellingham to study at Western Washington University. Courtney graduated in 2017 and Kaleigh more recently finished her degree in Education in 2020. While a student at WWU, Courtney had the opportunity to work at the Child Development Center all 4 years of study, with multiple referrals for babysitting and nannying. Post-graduation Courtney worked as a nanny for two children until Lightning Bugs Childcare was fully operating. Kaleigh also had multiple families that asked for her babysitting services. She also provided part-time relief to Hunter Daycare on a need basis.
Lightning Bugs Childcare has been operating since November 2019.

The Philosophy of Lightning Bugs Childcare is that all children deserve an early foundation of developmentally appropriate experiences in a warm and nurturing environment where they are encouraged to succeed in school and life.
We believe that all children should be treated equally and with respect. We allow children to explore through spontaneous play as well as themes related to the child world around him/her. Activities are age-appropriate and will include art, movement, music, language/literature, math, science, and outdoor play.

It's always been a passion of mine to work with children. Every child has their own way of making you smile and I love watching them grow into great little humans. I've been working with children since 14 years old from my parents daycare to my own.

Working alongside my sister, we have put everything we can into providing a safe creative space where children can grow and learn to their best abilities. I've been surrounded by children my whole life and couldn't ask for a better way to spend my days. I love watching as children grow and learn more about themselves and the world.
